We are now just over a month away from the start of spring training, which means the 2023 MLB season is almost upon us.
Still, there are some quality free agents that have been left unsigned, and there are teams, such as the St. Louis Cardinals, who have been relatively inactive, but could offset some of that by investing in some of the remaining free agents.
After losing to the Philadelphia Phillies in a two-game Wild Card sweep this past October, the team was in need of a new catcher to replace the retiring Yadier Molina.
But other needs remain, and the fact that they have not been addressed as of now has fans and analysts alike confused.
I expected the #STLCards to be a bit more active in baseball’s “Hot Stove” season.
Could it be because Mo & DeWitt have an electric stove?
It’s a fair question.

The remaining needs for St. Louis are pitching depth and another bat.
While Contreras being added does improve the lineup while also replacing Molina, the team will need to replace the now departed Corey Dickerson, who signed a one-year deal with the Washington Nationals earlier this week.
Some proven left-handed options include Tyler Naquin, Edwin Rios, David Peralta, and Ben Gamel.
In terms of starting pitching, the market is pretty picked over, with the best option available being right-hander Michael Wacha.
Perhaps some trades could be made soon.
The Miami Marlins are expected to potentially deal right-hander Pablo Lopez after the addition of Johnny Cueto.
Lopez fits the criteria of pitcher that the Cardinals have been looking for.
But time is running out.
Soon, spring training will be underway.
St. Louis needs to act swiftly to fill their remaining holes.
