With Kevin Durant out with an injury and Kyrie Irving being traded to the Dallas Mavericks, the Brooklyn Nets were in desperate need of an offensive spark.
That’s precisely what Cam Thomas has been providing as of late, stringing together three 40+ point performances.

Thomas was a walking bucket during his days at LSU, but had been on the floor for limited minutes in his brief NBA career.
He showed glimpses of great scoring ability when given the opportunity, and even called out former coach Steve Nash for not giving him the green light to shoot.
So, now that Jacque Vaughn and the Nets have been craving some offense, the 21-year-old guard has most definitely lived up to the occasion, becoming arguably the hottest scorer in the league right now.
Several fans and analysts deemed Thomas as the steal of his class, and some thought he had the upside to be one of the league’s leading scorers in the right situation.
It took him a while, but Thomas has proved them right with his ability to score from all three levels while posting efficient shooting splits.
Moreover, Thomas will continue to be heavily involved in the team’s offense going forward, as Durant will need a sidekick to help him carry the load once he’s ready to return to the court.
So, all things considered, Kyrie’s departure might as well end up being a blessing in disguise for the Nets, as it opened the door for Thomas’ breakout, and he’s just getting started.
