As several NFL teams assemble coaching staffs under new head coaches, other teams are looking for assistants to fill certain roles under a returning head coach.
One team looking for a new offensive coordinator is the Houston Texans, who fired Bobby Slowik after he served in that role the past two seasons.
The Texans reportedly have interviewed Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant Thad Lewis for their opening, which could put his current team into an unfavorable position after recently losing Liam Coen.
“Potential loss for the Bucs, as they search for their own OC,” Greg Auman of FOX Sports wrote on X.

Coen looked to be ready to return to the Bucs with a new contract but then circled back and was hired as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Losing another top offensive assistant could be an issue for Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles.
Lewis has had a role in Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield turning his career around over the past two years after stints with the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers led many to dismiss him as a bust.
In 2023, Mayfield threw for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns, and this season did even better with 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdown passes.
Houston has a promising offensive roster led by quarterback C.J. Stroud and wide receivers Tank Dell and Nico Collins, along with running back Joe Mixon.
They went 10-7 in the regular season and advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs for the second year in a row, where this time they lost to the Super Bowl-bound Kansas City Chiefs.
