The Cleveland Browns are already having a busy offseason even if the 2022 league year hasn’t officially started.
First, they’ve already assigned the franchise tag to tight end David Njoku.
Then, they have traded for former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper and let Jarvis Landry seek a trade partner.
Now, they’re not staying put at quarterback as ESPN’s Kimberley Martin shared.

Martin tweeted, “#Saints and #Panthers may have met with Deshaun Watson already, but don’t sleep on CLE. The #Browns are in play for Watson and plan to meet with the #Texans QB on Tuesday.”
If everything goes well between Watson and the Browns, expect Baker Mayfield to be playing elsewhere for 2022.
The Watson sweepstakes will intensify in the coming days after he was cleared of criminal charges from sexual misconduct allegations.
Therefore, it won’t be an easy battle for the Browns and they might have to let go of several players and picks to acquire the Pro Bowl quarterback.
The New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers will make a strong push for Watson and they are both attractive destinations.
Watson Is Still In Control
Regardless of the pitch that the Browns and other teams make, Watson still has the final say because of his no-trade clause.
Putting up an enticing trade package for Watson would be worthless if he doesn’t waive that contract provision for that team.
Therefore, the Browns must make a pitch about why they are the best destination for him.
Aside from a solid offensive line, Cleveland can also market their strong backfield with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.
Likewise, they have a good receiving crew with Cooper, Rashard Higgins, and Donovan Peoples-Jones.
