Despite some optimism during the offseason and training camp, it has been the usual frustrating season for the Cleveland Browns so far in 2023.
Although the team is a respectable 2-2, quarterback Deshaun Watson has been out due to a shoulder injury, and he will not suit up this weekend when his team hosts the 5-0 San Francisco 49ers.
But his injury may be worse than feared, as, per Mary Kay Cabot via MoreForYouCleveland, his rotator cuff has “a deep contusion that presents or functions more like a strain.”
As a result, he could continue to be sidelined for some time.

The long-suffering Browns traded for Watson prior to last season, and it looked like perhaps they had found their first true franchise QB since Bernie Kosar.
However, he had to first serve an 11-game suspension handed down by the NFL stemming from his numerous civil sexual misconduct lawsuits.
But since Watson returned from that suspension, he has looked nothing like the man who led the league in passing yards and threw for 33 touchdowns during the 2020 season.
In three games this year, he has completed 63.7 percent of his pass attempts and has just four touchdown passes and two interceptions, and he has gotten sacked a dozen times.
Therefore, it isn’t surprising that Cleveland ranks 23rd in points and 20th in yards so far in 2023.
Their defense has been rock-solid and ranks first in total yards allowed, but they will have a hard time scoring against the 49ers, who are also an outstanding defensive team.
