The San Francisco 49ers will enter the 2023 NFL season as legitimate Super Bowl contenders with arguably one of the most talented rosters in the league on both sides of the football.
Although the team is stacked with talent, like Nick Bosa, Christian McCaffrey, and Deebo Samuel, the primary concern for the team all offseason long has been the health of starting quarterback Brock Purdy, who was hurt in the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The team was concerned enough about Purdy’s status and the less-than-stellar improvement of Trey Lance that the team signed veteran Sam Darnold to provide some insurance at the position.
It appears that the concerns may soon be a thing of the past when it comes to Purdy’s status as he is reportedly on pace to get back on the field for the team’s season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, via ProFootballTalk.

If Purdy doesn’t face any setbacks between now and Week 1 in September, the 49ers will be ready to make a strong case as the best team in the NFC right out of the gate next season, with possibly only the Eagles or Dallas Cowboys standing in their way.
The real question from here on out for San Francisco is whether Purdy’s incredible rookie season was a fluke, but it seems as though head coach Kyle Shanahan is thoroughly convinced he’s got the right man for the job under center and is confident with the second-year quarterback to be his starter the minute he’s able to return.
