If the Tampa Bay Rays were April and May’s hottest team, then the Atlanta Braves were definitely June and July’s.
Not only did they achieve what seemed impossible a few weeks ago, which is catching the Rays in the overall MLB standings, but they have surpassed them and done it with flying colors.
To the contrary of what happened in recent seasons in which the Braves have leapfrogged the New York Mets late in the season, this year there is a huge difference between Atlanta and the rest of the division.
The Braves are 60-29 and the second-place team in the NL East, the Miami Marlins, are 8.5 games behind.
Speaking of the Mets, they have been no match for the Braves this year, as they are 42-48 and 18.5 games behind (!).
Atlanta has been in a tier of its own this year, and the numbers back that up, per Miles Garrett.

Remember that historic start by the Rays in which they were undefeated in their first 13 games of the season?
Well, the Braves are now four games ahead of the Rays, which are still an incredible team.
That’s how good Atlanta has been.
They have a legitimate MVP candidate in Ronald Acuna Jr. and an incredible supporting cast.
Their pitching depth is amazing, they are about to get back their ace and Opening Day starter in Max Fried, and last year’s wins leader Kyle Wright will also be back in the second half.
The Braves have a great chance of making (and winning) their second World Series in three years.
