The Los Angeles Chargers are confident they have their quarterback of the future in Justin Herbert.
Now it is time to show Herbert how much confidence they have in him by giving him a new contract.
Herbert is entering the fourth year of his five-year contract and is eligible for an extension.
According to Around The NFL, Chargers head coach Brandon Staley said contract talks are “ongoing.”

There is no question the Chargers should get a deal done with Herbert sooner rather than later.
In the NFL, the next big quarterback that is set to get paid usually resets the market.
That is why it would be smart for the Chargers to pay Herbert before Joe Burrow.
Both seek long-term deals that will be over $50 million per season.
Herbert still has a lot to prove as an NFL quarterback.
It all starts with him proving he can win in the postseason.
Last year, the Chargers had one of the worst losses in franchise history in the first round of the playoffs.
They led 27-0 at halftime and proceeded to blow the lead and the game in the second half.
Herbert led the Chargers on three touchdown drives in the first half.
But, he could not get them in the end zone once during the second half.
Herbert has not accomplished what some of the other top-paid quarterbacks have but he has a high ceiling.
If the Chargers want to make Herbert their quarterback of the future it will come at a substantial price.
