Bob Myers spent about a decade as a sports agent representing a number of NBA players before the Golden State Warriors hired him to be their assistant general manager in 2011.
A year later, he became their general manager, and he started to build the league’s most recent dynasty, one that won four world championships in eight seasons.
But that dynasty has disintegrated over the last two years since their last championship, and Myers quit his job in May of last year.
Per Law Murray, he explained why he left the Warriors. “I was done. I just couldn’t do it….I care too much to not give my best,” Myers said.

When Myers joined Golden State, they had long been an NBA laughingstock that had won just one playoff series over the past two decades, but their fortunes immediately improved.
They got to the second round of the playoffs in 2013, and just after Steve Kerr was hired to be their head coach, they won it all in 2015.
Other than deciding to hire Kerr, who had never even been an assistant coach to that point, the key decision Myers made that triggered the Warriors’ dynasty was to not trade Klay Thompson for a big man.
Instead of giving in to the temptation to go with a more traditional lineup that got lots of scoring from an inside presence, the Warriors revolutionized basketball with its pace-and-space approach behind Thompson and fellow starting guard Stephen Curry.
The NBA is better off as a result, especially since the Warriors were also an outstanding defensive team during their championship runs over the years.
