All teams not named Green Bay Packers usually struggle when they move on from a Hall of Famer at the quarterback position.
The New England Patriots are currently going through that as if they were being punished by the football gods for two decades of Tom Brady.
Notably, they expect Drake Maye to be the one to put an end to their misery and get them back to their winning ways.
However, Jerod Mayo and the Patriots’ coaching staff don’t think he’s ready just yet, and he’ll have to sit back and learn for the time being.
That’s most definitely the right approach, at least if you were to ask Bill Belichick.
In his new show, the renowned head coach didn’t seem to be very high on the UNC product.

While he acknowledged that his size, strength, and speed were enticing, he believes he’s still very raw.
Judging by the preseason, Belichick thinks Maye still needs plenty of seasoning in terms of reading coverages, consistency, and overall throwing mechanics.
Belichick thinks that Maye was the rawest among his quarterback peers entering the league.
Of course, he wouldn’t be the first star quarterback who had to be on the sidelines for a while before being ready to be thrown into the fire, and the Patriots were aware of this when they took him in the NFL Draft.
Then again, perhaps Belichick isn’t the best to talk about quarterback evaluations, as other than Brady, he didn’t particularly strike gold with any of his quarterbacks.
