The Chicago Bears looked poised to take a big leap last offseason.
They did almost everything they needed to be a contending team, except for revamping their offensive line.
However, their decision to keep Matt Eberflus around backfired almost immediately.
It was a perfect opportunity to start fresh with a new regime.
Instead, they kept Eberflus and essentially wasted a season of Caleb Williams.
Now, that’s not going to be the case.
When asked about his mindset for the upcoming campaign, new head coach Ben Johnson claimed that he was aiming to raise the bar and build a winning culture in the Windy City (via NFL Network):
“We’re gonna set that bar high, and push toward it each and every day,” he said.

Johnson was the most sought-after head coaching candidate in this year’s hiring cycle.
Getting him was a huge win for the Bears.
The front office then proceeded to bolster the interior of the offensive line.
Caleb Williams was the most-sacked quarterback last season, and that’s not usually a recipe for success, much less for a rookie.
Of course, as good as Johnson was in his role as offensive coordinator, he has yet to prove himself as a head coach, and that’s an entirely different animal.
Nevertheless, with the pieces this team has put together, Williams learning from his rookie mistakes, and a creative offensive mind leading the way, there are more than enough reasons to be excited about the Bears.
It remains to be seen whether they will finally take a leap forward and return to playoff contention, but they seem to be on the right path.
