The Chicago Bears are in a state of flux as they will head into the offseason in need of a new head coach.
Former head coach Matt Eberflus was fired midseason, a rare move for Chicago, which typically waits until the offseason before making a change in the position.
However, Eberflus was incompetent on several levels, and now the Bears must find a leader who can turn the franchise around while also helping develop Caleb Williams.
Given the roster’s state and future draft capital, Chicago’s opening should be an attractive landing spot for any head coaching candidate.
One name to watch out for is Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who has been a popular candidate for years now.
In fact, Johnson appears open to hearing out Chicago should they choose to pursue him in the offseason via Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
“Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson once again one of the hottest names in this cycle. My understanding is Johnson is intrigued by the Bears job and is going to be willing to listen,” Pelissero reported.

Johnson’s developed a strong reputation around the league for his offensive IQ and playcalling, helping elevate the Lions’ offense into the juggernaut it is now.
Johnson should be at the top of most teams’ lists come the hiring cycle, given his experience offensively as well as the success he’s seen in Detroit.
For now, Chicago will need to carefully evaluate all of its options in the offseason, but Johnson would be a strong hire.
