Despite a disappointing end to the 2022 NFL season, the Chicago Bears had high hopes for the immediate future, with the team believing that quarterback Justin Fields could become a special player and someone the team could build around moving forward.
Unfortunately, the 2023 campaign is going about as well as it did last year, with the team continuing to struggle and seeing Fields take a step back rather than the expected giant leap forward.
Along with not being able to take a step forward so far this season, Fields has been injured and unable to play the last three games, which resulted in a win and two losses, with Tyson Bagent filling in.
Fortunately for the Bears, Fields was back on the practice field on Friday, throwing passes to his receivers, which Sean Hammond of Bears Insider caught.

Even though Fields was on the practice field on Friday, the 24-year-old is listed as doubtful for Week 9 on the road against the New Orleans Saints, with Bagent expected to get another start under center.
Despite being expected to miss the game against the Saints, this is obviously a good sign for the Bears moving forward, as he might be ready to take on the Carolina Panthers on Thursday back in Chicago at Soldier Field.
In the games that Fields has played thus far this season, he has thrown for a total of 1,201 yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions while also rushing for 237 yards and a touchdown.
This kind of production isn’t going to get it done for the Bears.
