Baker Mayfield was hoping a delay of two days would allow him to test negative for COVID-19 and join his teammates on the field Monday.
Instead, Nick Mullens got the start for the Cleveland Browns as they squared off with the Las Vegas Raiders for a 5 p.m. start.
That meant Mayfield had to watch at home and react like the rest of us on Twitter.

Mayfield was tweeting throughout the game and reacted to all the highs and lows of what was a back-and-forth affair until the final second of the game.

There is something so pure about Mayfield just tweeting his thoughts from home like a regular fan.
He wasn’t using some fancy new app or service.
He was just on Twitter like plenty of other Browns fans, reacting to the game in real time.

Unfortunately, the final result was a bad one for Mayfield and the Browns.
The Usual Story
The Browns have seven losses this season and five have come by single-digit margins.
So while fans had hope with a late lead, they had also seen this story play out many times before.
Stadium better be so damn loud when the defense is back on the field….

The offense took a late lead thanks to a dramatic touchdown pass from Mullens on fourth down.
NICK F’N MULLENS!!!!!!!

But the defense could not stop Derek Carr as he got the ball into field goal range for a game-winning kick.
The Cleveland faithful watched their dreams of being in first place fade away in an instant.
Mayfield had no final tweet as he likely put his phone down in a fit of rage for not being able to be on the field and help his team.
The 2021 NFL season is an obscure one and the fact the Browns played on a Monday at 5 p.m. with Mullens at quarterback will go down as a good illustration of how the season went as a whole.
