The Minnesota Timberwolves got themselves a legit franchise cornerstone when they drafted Anthony Edwards.
They haven’t found that much luck with former No. 1 picks, as Andrew Wiggins never lived up to the hype, Anthony Bennett barely played while in town, and Karl-Anthony Towns seemed to peak early and failed to take his game up another notch.
Nonetheless, even if Towns has struggled to stay on the floor or take the next step in his career, Edwards still believes he could be an MVP in this league.
When asked by NBA insider Shams Charania about his goals for the upcoming campaign, the young star out of Georgia talked about his teammates, stating that they want to win 50 games this season, and how they want Towns to be an MVP-caliber player, Jaden McDaniels to be the best three-and-D guy in the NBA, and Rudy Gobert to win another Defensive Player of the Year award.

While those three goals are attainable, expecting all three to happen could be far-fetched.
Even so, that’s the kind of mindset you want from your franchise player when you’re entering the season.
Towns is still young, and there’s no doubt that he could enter the MVP conversation in any given season, especially if they do win 50 games as he wants.
Then again, perhaps the Timberwolves would fare much better if they made Edwards — not Towns — the centerpiece of their project, as he’s already proven to be more than capable to lead the way and take them to the playoffs, even in a very complicated season like last year’s.
