The Minnesota Timberwolves have to be pleased with what they’re seeing from Anthony Edwards during the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Edwards has been the clear-cut No. 1 option for Team USA and he led the roster to an undefeated exhibition slate and helped them capture their first win of group play recently against New Zealand.
The young phenom has been a rising star in the NBA and international play has given him a chance to show that he’s making the next leap in his career.
With a blend of size, athleticism, talent, and fearlessness, Edwards is the perfect franchise cornerstone for Minnesota to build around.
Although Edwards recently signed a max five-year contract extension this summer, there’s always the fear that he could choose to ask out or leave if the team doesn’t start winning.
With that in mind, Edwards didn’t ease any anxiety about him leaving when he praised Erik Spoelstra and the Miami Heat for their culture via Complex Sports.
“I see what they mean when they say Heat Culture,” Edwards said.

The Heat have built a reputation around the league for their hardcore preparation and workouts, something that seems to appeal to Edwards.
Spoelstra is one of the best head coaches in the NBA currently and he’s got the resume to back it up given his two championship rings and multiple Finals appearances.
While Edwards’ comments are sure to raise some eyebrows, he hasn’t shown any hints of discontent with the Timberwolves and appears committed to winning with the team that drafted him.
