The Los Angeles Angels are stuck in limbo when it comes to trade deadline plans.
They have, as of Monday afternoon, a 51-49 record.
That may not sound incredibly good, but they are just four games removed from the last Wild Card spot in the American League.
They are contending for a place in the postseason, and as long as they have Shohei Ohtani healthy, they stand a chance.
However, a losing streak this week could lead to the team selling.
However, there is also a chance they actually go out and acquire some talent to strengthen their roster, hoping that can lead to their first playoff appearance since 2014.
The Angels know that if they want to keep Ohtani – he is a free agent after the season – beyond this year, they have to show him they can be competitive.
Relief pitcher Carlos Estevez talked with Angels insider Sam Blum about the chance of the team actually becoming a buyer instead of a seller.
Carlos Estévez said he's happy playing with the guys on this team already. But on the Angels becoming buyers?
“The front office knows what we need. I think they’re going to go out and get the right (players). If we get some additions, well, ‘Welcome. Let’s get some Halos wins.’”

Of course, Estevez is leaving the decision on a deadline strategy to the front office, but there is already chatter about the Angels actually luring some talent to LA for a playoff push.
They aren’t that far away, and a couple of solid pitchers can really make a big difference.
Estevez, for his part, is committed to keep doing a great job in the back of the bullpen.
After all, he has been magnificent with a 2.03 ERA in 40 innings this year.
