The Carolina Panthers are all set to get their new franchise quarterback.
And while most people believe they won’t hesitate to take Alabama standout Bryce Young with the No. 1 pick, former NFL player Maurice Jones-Drew wouldn’t be that sure.
Instead, the former running back believes the Panthers could be leaning towards taking Anthony Richardson in what would be a shocking turn of events.

Jones-Drew argued that Richardson’s physical traits and style of play could remind the fans and the organization of Cam Newton, their MVP and the guy who took them all the way to the Super Bowl.
NFL scouts have raved about Richardson’s athleticism, speed, and arm strength since the combine, and he’s been a quick riser in most mock drafts.
Still, his decision making and poor accuracy are also big red flags.
There’s no consensus as to where he could be taken in the upcoming draft, with some even hesitating to get him in the first round.
This NFL Draft QB class has been one of the most polarizing of all time, and it seems like there’s no such thing as a clear-cut favorite at this point.
Even so, taking Richardson over Young or C.J. Stroud could be one of the most shocking and controversial decisions in franchise history, especially considering they actually traded up to get the No. 1 pick.
So, while it most definitely makes sense from a nostalgia standpoint, and Richardson does have sky-high upside and potential, it’s hard to envision the Panthers fulfilling Jones-Drew’s prophecy on April 27.
