The Chicago Bears had no choice but to give up on Justin Fields.
It was either give him up for very little or keep him as a backup for their next quarterback, but that kind of pressure or competition may have been a disservice to him.
That’s why they settled for a conditional sixth-round pick in return for his services.
Considering that, NFL analyst Michelle Smallmon warned the Bears not to mess things up with their next quarterback (via UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio).
“The Bears better not mess up their next QB,” Smallmon said.

It’s crazy to realize that the Bears have never had a franchise quarterback or a superstar at the position.
Now, they could finally put an end to that drought with Caleb Williams, who’s expected to be a generational talent at quarterback.
Then again, we’ve also seen multiple potential stars get ruined by their teams, and this wouldn’t be the first nor the last time that a No. 1 pick ends up failing to live up to the expectations.
The Bears didn’t want to commit to Justin Fields or his playing style, and they never put him in a position to succeed.
This time, it seems like they’re trying to do things differently, as they’ve already added Keenan Allen, D’Andre Swift, and are making moves to bolster the offensive line to keep their quarterback safe and sound.
Hopefully, that’ll help with his development, as scouts believe he could end up being one of the best to ever do it, and it would be a shame to see all that talent and potential go to waste.
