Over the past few months, the Chicago Bears have been weighing their options concerning what to do with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and whether to trade star quarterback Justin Fields.
Throughout the entire process, all signs pointed to the Bears trading Fields elsewhere and the team drafting USC superstar quarterback Caleb Williams with the top pick in the upcoming draft.
After recently trading Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the writing is on the wall in Chicago, with Williams set to be the next starting quarterback for the Bears.
Although it seemed like an easy move for the Bears to trade Fields during this NFL offseason, it seemed like a challenge for Chicago to find a trade suitor as they had to settle for a sixth-round pick in exchange for their starting quarterback over the past three years.
On an episode of the Ross Tucker Podcast, Greg Cosell of ESPN’s NFL Matchup said he found it odd that Fields has been labeled as a player who can’t play after only three years.
“It just struck me as odd that after three years in the league, people have decided that this guy cannot play,” Cosell said.

The consensus around the league seemed to be that the Bears wouldn’t have trouble trading Fields and would get decent compensation in return for the 25-year-old quarterback.
Ultimately, the Bears had to settle for the Steelers’ offer, which would make Fields the backup to veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, which was also something that was unexpected in this situation.
