Mike Tomlin has been the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers for almost two decades, and with him leading the way, his teams have never finished a season with a losing record.
Despite the Steelers never being among the NFL’s bottom dwellers during Tomlin’s tenure, the team hasn’t won a playoff game since 2016, and some believe it might be time for the franchise to move on from their longtime head coach.
If the two sides decide to part ways in 2024, The Volume’s John Middlekauff believes Tomlin would “make a ton of sense” to be the next head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers (via The Volume on Twitter).

That would certainly be an interesting transition for Tomlin to go from one of the most successful franchises in NFL history to a franchise that is known to be one of the most snake-bitten teams in the history of the league.
Brandon Staley is still currently the head coach of the Chargers, but with a 5-8 record heading into Week 15 after the team made the playoffs last season, most assume Los Angeles will be looking for a new head coach in 2024.
Could that new hire end up being Tomlin if he actually ends up becoming available following the 2023 season?
It’s possible, but the Chargers might be more interested in hiring someone who could help quarterback Justin Herbert reach his highest potential.
Los Angeles just gave Herbert a gigantic contract, and hiring a new head coach with an offensive background would likely help the team get the most out of the huge investment they’ve made into their young quarterback.
