Trade rumors are again swirling around the Los Angeles Lakers, with defensive centers topping their wishlist.
As the NBA trade deadline approaches, speculation grows about the team’s next big move – a familiar scenario for a franchise perpetually linked to marquee names.
This time, though, the buzz has started earlier than usual, driven by the team’s longstanding desire to find Anthony Davis a reliable frontcourt partner.
The Lakers’ urgency makes sense.
Under rookie head coach JJ Redick’s guidance, Davis has been playing at an MVP-caliber level, and the team boasts an impressive 10-5 record just 15 games into the season.
NBA analyst Jake Weinbach has already identified potential targets, with Portland Trail Blazers’ Robert Williams III emerging as an intriguing possibility.
“The Lakers should be expected to pinpoint Robert Williams III as a high-value trade target this season,” Weinbach wrote. “Time Lord would provide essential rim protection, front court depth, and much-needed defensive stability with the Lakers reportedly ‘in search’ of another big.”

27-year-old Williams has struggled to stay healthy since his move from the Celtics to the Blazers.
Although his court appearances have been limited – just six games last season and five this year – his potential impact remains tantalizing.
Redick hasn’t been shy about wanting to add a “bruising” big man alongside Davis.
Williams could be that missing piece, bringing size, defensive prowess, and interior scoring.
His presence at center would allow Davis to return to his natural power forward position.
Beyond addressing their frontcourt needs, acquiring Williams would strengthen the Lakers’ bench depth.
