After a disastrous first season with the Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson will be looking to rewrite the narrative when the 2023 season officially kicks off.
Wilson’s relationship with the Seattle Seahawks deteriorated to the point that the two sides felt a trade was in their best interest, paving the way for the Broncos to acquire him.
Denver had been searching for a quarterback since Peyton Manning retired and Wilson made for a worthy successor given his championship pedigree.
However, 2022 ended up being one of Wilson’s worst seasons in the NFL as he and the Broncos ultimately failed to make the playoffs.
Despite the poor ending last year, the Broncos are hopeful that Wilson can reach star status again now that Sean Payton is on board as the team’s new head coach.
Although there’s optimism that Wilson can return to form analysts like Emmanuel Acho aren’t holding their breath via Speak.
“I haven’t seen enough from Russell Wilson to be confident,” Acho said.

Acho concedes that there’s some legitimacy to the fact that Payton can get the best out of Wilson, though he also goes on to mention that there weren’t many memorable moments from last season.
That in itself is an indictment of how Wilson’s first season went, though it would be unfair to place all the blame on him.
Regardless, Denver’s got no other choice but to hope Wilson is up to the task of leading the team and getting them back to the playoffs in what’s looking like a crowded AFC.
