The Philadelphia 76ers are off to a flying start to the 2023-24 NBA season despite trading away James Harden, one of their superstars, to the Los Angeles Clippers.
A key reason behind the 76ers’ elite start has been Joel Embiid’s sensational form over the first six games of the season.
Embiid is averaging 32.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game for the 76ers this season.
He’s currently leading the league in scoring, and with that in mind, Dan Roche of NBC Sports Philadelphia declared Embiid as the “best scorer of all time,” via NBACentral on Twitter.
“To this point in his career, he’s one of the best scorers of all-time right? Wrong.
He’s the best scorer of all-time.” 👀😳– NBC Sports Philadelphia’s @RochesRWinners on Joel Embiid pic.twitter.com/UkTe2latOc

Embiid undoubtedly has a knack for scoring, and he’s surely one of the best scorers of this generation.
But to say Embiid is the best scorer of all time might be a reach.
Sure, Embiid has won the NBA scoring title two seasons in a row, and he may win another one this year.
But one cannot forget the likes of Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, and Kevin Durant when talking about the greatest scorers of all time.
Durant has been named the NBA scoring champion four times, while Chamberlain took home the honor 10 times during his career.
And let’s not forget about arguably the greatest player of all time, Jordan, who won 10 scoring titles over his NBA career.
If Embiid can manage to surpass Jordan in terms of total scoring championships, then he may have a place in the debate.
Until then, however, the 76ers center may not deserve such a title.
