This week has been all about the James Harden trade saga in the NBA, with the Philadelphia 76ers superstar guard calling out Daryl Morey for being a “liar” earlier this week during an Adidas event in China.
Harden owned the headlines for a couple of days until reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid made things that much more interesting this week by wiping his social media accounts of any affiliation with the team, sparking rumors that he may now want out of Philadelphia.
The Harden situation was bad enough for the 76ers, but Embiid potentially being disgruntled makes for a much more complicated scenario, especially coming off the best season of his NBA career thus far.
At this point, it seems uncertain what Embiid’s intentions were when taking the 76ers off his social media accounts, as some believe he’s just trolling people and making light of the situation.
However, that might not be the case, and he may legitimately be sick of constant drama in Philadelphia, with Kelly Iko of The Athletic speculating that the Houston Rockets could be a potential destination for the superstar center, via NBACentral.
The Houston Rockets are a team to watch for Joel Embiid, per @KellyIko
“Another team is Houston, just because of the bond between Joel and Ime [Udoka]. Maybe in the next year or so… because obviously, if Joel stays this season and plays it out, that’s one thing.
But moving… pic.twitter.com/qg89xrOGra— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) August 16, 2023
Once the rumors started floating around about Embiid potentially wanting out, the New York Knicks have been mentioned as a possible landing spot, as he’d be an ideal fit in the Big Apple playing alongside Jalen Brunson and perhaps the missing piece to the championship puzzle for the storied franchise.
Only time will tell how this will all pan out in Philadelphia, as it seems things have gotten uglier than ever for a team that was once considered a perennial title contender in the Eastern Conference.
