On Friday afternoon, it was announced that the New York Knicks and Jalen Brunson had agreed to a new four-year, $156.5 million deal.
That is considerably less than Brunson could have earned but he agreed to the extension because the extra money he might have received will go toward making the roster stronger.
Brunson’s paycheck, and pay cut, received a lot of attention from fans, analysts, and writers.
For example, Rob Parker called Brunson out on FOX Sports Radio.
He said that Brunson and all professional athletes should accept everything they can from their teams because the concept of a front office using extra cash to help the team is a myth.
Brunson’s decision may have come from the right place, Parker said, but it won’t actually assist the Knicks.

Brunson really believes in the Knicks and wants to help them succeed by any means necessary.
He is obviously the most important player on the team and has taken them to new heights recently.
And the Knicks’ roster has greatly improved over the last few years, with the additions of him, Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo, and others.
Brunson wants to see the team get even better in the months ahead and he believes that taking this pay cut will help with that.
But Parker doesn’t think this extra money in the Knicks’ wallet will translate to more talent.
Instead of getting more support on the roster or even helping out fans at Madison Square Garden, they will likely just sit on the money.
But perhaps Brunson knows something everyone else doesn’t and maybe there are definitive plans to turn this money into more help in the lineup.
