The San Francisco 49ers have a big decision to make in the offseason.
Brock Purdy is going to demand a steep pay raise, and there are more than enough reasons to be concerned about that.
As shown by John Middlekauff in his 3&Out podcast, Purdy hasn’t been much different than the player he was in college, and that’s not always a good thing.

Physical limitations aside, he fell in the NFL Draft because of his subpar decision-making, and that has continued to haunt him as a professional.
He’s struggled in the second halves of most games, constantly turning the ball over.
He’s also seemingly unable to make good reads when throwing in the middle of the field, which is one of the few things one would expect from an NFL-caliber starter.
Granted, Purdy isn’t single-handedly to blame for the Niners’ woes this season.
Then again, he hasn’t done much to help his case, either.
He is great at executing Kyle Shanahan’s system, and things usually went his way when he had his All-Pro tackle, All-Pro running back, and stellar wide receivers and tight end out there.
With them out or injured, that hasn’t been the case.
Also, he will have to be measured against his potential salary.
He will no longer be the bargain deal of a quarterback he’s been for this team, so he’ll be judged accordingly.
After what we’ve seen from him this season, it’s hard to make a case for him to get top-dollar, but the Niners might not have much of a choice either.
