The Houston Texans were one of the biggest surprises in the NFL last season.
After being a bottom-feeder for a few years, the Texans turned around in a big way, winning the AFC South and proving to the rest of the league that they were a team to watch.
A lot of their success was due to C.J. Stroud’s dominance and confidence during his rookie season, giving fans confidence that he could be the future of their franchise.
Despite the optimism after a strong 2023 season, the 2024 campaign hasn’t been as magical for Stroud and the Texans.
They still lead the division with an 8-5 record and are in a great position to make the postseason, but there seems to be something missing from their offense.
Greg Cosell outlined what he believes is the team’s biggest issue in a recent segment of Ross Tucker’s podcast.
“We all like C.J. Stroud, that’s not the point… Quarterbacks have to learn how to function in noisy, muddy pockets when the pocket is squeezed. And I think that’s one of the next steps in his development,” Cosell said.

Cosell believes that pocket management is the next area Stroud can improve in, which could take his game to the next level.
He has already shown an ability to be clutch and win hard-fought games, so his abilities as an NFL quarterback are not being questioned.
Every player, especially young players, can always improve, and with some additional coaching, Stroud could take his game to the next level.
