The Philadelphia Eagles took another step toward claiming their first Super Bowl championship since the 2017 season when they got past the Los Angeles Rams, 28-22, in the divisional round of the playoffs.
They’re set to face Jayden Daniels and the rapidly ascending Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game this coming weekend, and they’re solid favorites in the game right now.
The Eagles have come a long way since last season, when they started 10-1, only to lose five of their last six regular-season games before they were routed in the wild-card round of the playoffs by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
After that loss to the Buccaneers, there were rumors that head coach Nick Sirianni was on the hot seat, and former NFL defensive tackle Chris Canty said that for Sirianni to ensure he will be coaching Philly past next season, he will have to deliver a world championship.
“For Nick Sirianni to get a contract extension, he’s got to do something exceptional…beating the Commanders with a rookie QB at home in the postseason is not exceptional. Winning the Super Bowl is.”

Sirianni has been Philly’s head coach since 2021, when he agreed to a five-year contract after spending over a decade as an assistant with multiple other teams.
The Eagles went just 9-8 in his first season at their helm, but their subsequent trade for star wide receiver A.J. Brown changed everything, and it got them to the Super Bowl and to the brink of a Vince Lombardi Trophy the following year.
Right now, another trip to the big game seems likely for the Eagles, but if they get there, they may have to face the Kansas City Chiefs, the team that defeated them there two years ago.
The Chiefs, of course, are the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, and at times, they seem almost impossible to defeat these days.
