The Memphis Grizzlies were reportedly trying to get rid of Dillon Brooks for the better part of two seasons.
He was eventually told that he wouldn’t be brought back under any circumstances.
Obviously, most people thought it had to do with his antics, all the talking he did, and whatnot.
But according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, it was actually his terrible shot selection that led the Grizzlies to desperately look to part ways with him.
Real GM reported (via NBA Central) that Brooks didn’t want to be the fourth or fifth scoring option in Memphis, often forcing him to take wild shots.

Truth be told, it’s surprising that Brooks got that big contract with the Houston Rockets.
He’s not a poor player by any means, and he’s proven to be able to play some solid defense, but he also cost his team a crucial win because of a missed defensive assignment.
He also shot his way off the court more often than not, and that poor shot selection speaks volumes of coachability issues, not to mention the fact that he clearly has more confidence in his shot than he should.
Brooks could be a very valuable 3-and-D asset and a solid role player in the right circumstances, and he could have a long and successful NBA career if he decides to embrace that role.
But if he keeps trying to make a statement by taking wild shot after wild shot, he might not even be in the league after this contract.
