The Boston Celtics need to take a deep look in the mirror and figure out what to do with their future.
Jaylen Brown’s contract situation should be at the top of their priority list right now.
Brown is one of the league’s rising stars and is a very good two-way player, but he’s not a superstar and will likely never achieve that status, which is why plenty of people debate whether they should sign him to that historically-large five-year, $295 million contract.
According to Nick Wright, the Celtics should look to move on from Brown and trade him for Damian Lillard.

Per Wright, the whole point of having two stars is that one can step up when the other is having an off night, which isn’t the case with Brown.
More than that, the fact that the new CBA will hit and the Celtics will have to commit $50 million to Brown and then $60 million to Tatum also makes it a tough call for Brad Stevens.
Committing that much money on two guys could severely hamper their ability to surround their two stars with talent, not to mention the fact that they would be borderline untradable for the very same reasons.
As for Lillard, he’s not yet available, and he might never be, all things considered.
The Portland Trail Blazers are reportedly considering trading that No. 3 pick to pair Dame with another All-Star caliber player, so the Celtics might want to look elsewhere if they intend to move on from Brown in the offseason.
