The Kansas City Chiefs improved to 6-1 on the 2023 season with a fairly impressive 31-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.
While quarterback Patrick Mahomes had been having a somewhat subpar season to that point, he looked a lot like his old vintage self against the Bolts, completing 32 of 42 passes for 424 yards while throwing four touchdown passes.
That performance boosted his season numbers, and it led to Cardale Jones saying that he is on pace for another MVP season, per the NFL on CBS.

If Mahomes does indeed win this season’s MVP award, it would be his third, and he is only 28 years of age.
On the season, he is leading the NFL in touchdown passes (15), pass attempts (266), and pass completions (185) while completing 69.5 percent of his passes and posting a 101.0 passer rating.
Last season, he led everyone with 41 touchdown passes and 5,250 passing yards en route to his second regular-season MVP.
Mahomes’ exploits on Sunday allowed star tight end Travis Kelce to go for 179 yards, while wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling showed spark with 84 receiving yards.
The one concern for the defending Super Bowl champs is their lack of a consistently productive wide receiver after JuJu Smith-Schuster, who had 933 yards last season, left in free agency.
Through seven games, their most productive wideout is rookie Rashee Rice, who has 305 yards, and it has resulted in too much of a burden on Kelce, who has 525 yards and four touchdowns in six contests.
This setup may work in the regular season, but it may not work come playoff time.
