The Philadelphia Eagles are tied for the best record in the NFL (5-1), but it feels like they’re still not as good as they were last season.
There should be no shame in losing to the New York Jets’ stellar defense, but their offense hasn’t been as dominant and explosive as it was last season.
That’s why Craig Carton still isn’t so sure about their chances to make a run at the Super Bowl.

While they made the most of the “easy” part of the schedule with this 5-1 record, they will have a brutal five-week stretch that could either solidify them as a team to beat or get him to crumble under pressure.
They currently have to face the Miami Dolphins, Washington Commanders, and Dallas Cowboys before the bye week, so that’s not exactly a cakewalk.
Then, they’ll have to square off with the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, Cowboys again, and Seattle Seahawks.
Carton believes that they could lose all five games, although he also acknowledged that they’re good enough to win the five games as well.
That’s the stretch that’ll show where Nick Sirianni’s team truly is after losing its top two assistants in the offseason.
As of now, it seems like the race to the top of the NFC is as open as it’s ever been.
The Niners have looked better than the rest of the pack, but they could be without Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams, and/or Christian McCaffrey for a while, and that obviously levels the field.
