After making some unexpected moves during the NBA offseason by trading Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards in exchange for veteran point guard Chris Paul, the Golden State Warriors had high hopes of being a title contender once again during the 2023-24 NBA regular season.
Unfortunately for Stephen Curry and company, things haven’t gone as planned for Golden State, with the team struggling all year long to stay above .500 and keep in the playoff picture in the Western Conference.
Even though the team is hitting a down period with a spot in the playoffs not guaranteed at this point, the future might be bright in San Francisco, with a potential star emerging, Jonathan Kuminga.
Jason Timpf of The Volume believes that Kuminga is going to be the next star player for the Warriors, as he’s shown flashes this season of taking his game to another level via 95.7 The Game.
“I think in a couple years, Jonathan Kuminga is going to be a star,” Timpf said. “Nobody can guard him one-on-one… He has so much potential. He’s the kind of player the Warriors can say, ‘We hit on this pick.'”

Despite this season not going the way the Warriors want it to at this point in the year, Kuminga is having a breakout season, as he’s averaging a career-high 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 53.2% from the floor.
It’ll be interesting to see how Kuminga can keep developing as a player the Warriors can lean on moving forward and whether he’ll be a legitimate star in San Francisco in the near future.
