Heading into the season, many fans and analysts expected the San Francisco 49ers to dominate the NFC West.
They had the best preseason odds to win the Super Bowl, and after watching how well they played in 2022 and 2023, this analysis didn’t seem off-base.
However, like many teams across the league, they’ve struggled with injuries, and their record is not as strong as they might have hoped.
Their lackluster play compared to expectations has caused other teams in the division to gain confidence, giving them all a chance to win the division.
The Arizona Cardinals have looked like the best team in the division at times this year, a breath of fresh air for a team that has had its fair share of struggles.
Despite some solid games, there seems to be some doubt about Kyler Murray, as Greg Cosell noted in a recent “Ross Tucker” podcast segment.
“I think Kyler Murray is what he is… The consistency of his game from the pocket is up and down on a weekly basis,” Cosell said.

Cosell noted Murray’s inconsistency as a point of concern for the Cardinals moving forward.
His scrambling ability is among the best in the league, but Murray hasn’t been consistent, which is why their record is below .500 despite having a strong roster.
It will be interesting to see what the Cardinals will do with Murray in 2025 and beyond, especially if the team fails to make the playoffs for another season.
