The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their quarterback search remarkably transparent this offseason.
Their attendance at multiple college Pro Days signals a willingness to invest in the position at the 2025 NFL Draft.
Head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan haven’t been subtle, personally evaluating four quarterback prospects while hosting two others for official visits.
Some analysts believe the Steelers might have an opportunity to land a high-profile prospect who could slide down the draft board.
One such scenario involves Shedeur Sanders, a scenario PFF recently described as a “dream scenario” for Pittsburgh.
“At No. 21 overall, this would be a dream pick for Pittsburgh, if they sticked here at No. 21 and that is taking Shedeur Sanders, the quarterback from Colorado. So, I think Shedeur Sanders is worthy of being a top-five to top-10 pick in this year’s draft. But with the [New York] Giants not taking him at [No. 3], you could see a little bit of a free fall for Shedeur Sanders, and I think here at 21 that free fall would stop here for Pittsburgh,” PFF explained on X.

The analyst noted that drafting Sanders would make strategic sense even if Aaron Rodgers eventually joins the Steelers.
Pittsburgh’s aggressive approach stems from an obvious need for a franchise quarterback and has sparked discussions about potential bold moves.
Given the uncertainty surrounding Rodgers’ future, including rumors he might sit out or retire, securing a young quarterback becomes even more important.
A partnership between Tomlin and Sanders could prove beneficial for both sides.
Sanders would gain valuable development time while serving as a backup, and the Steelers would secure their potential quarterback of the future.
Should Sanders remain available at pick No. 21, Pittsburgh would gain both immediate depth and long-term stability at the position.
