The chances of winning a Super Bowl without a good quarterback in today’s NFL are pretty close to none.
It’s been like that since the dawn of football, and it has only become more evident as the game becomes more pass-oriented.
With that in mind, Mike Greenberg of ESPN put together his list of the top five quarterbacks who could sneak their way into the top 10 with a good season in 2023, and he had some very interesting picks, to say the least.
.@Espngreeny's top five QBs most likely to jump into the top 10 after this season ⬇️
1. Trevor Lawrence
2. Tua Tagovailoa
3. Deshaun Watson
4. Justin Fields
5. Geno Smith pic.twitter.com/JOV08OtPMk— Get Up (@GetUpESPN) August 9, 2023
At No. 5, Greenberg talked about Geno Smith, and how some people claim they need to see him do what he did last year again to buy into the hype, adding that the Seattle Seahawks have an outstanding core of wideouts, and they only got better this offseason.
Then, he talked about Justin Fields, who he predicted could have a Jalen Hurts or Josh Allen kind of breakout, and said that he could be among the best quarterbacks in the game in terms of Fantasy Football.
Greenberg later talked about Deshaun Watson, stating that he will be a top 10 quarterback in the game if he’s able to get to 75% of the player he was before all the off-field controversies.
He chose Tua Tagovailoa at No. 2, citing that despite all the injury concerns, the Miami Dolphins should have one of the best offenses in the game, thus making him an obvious MVP candidate.
Last but not least, he raved about Trevor Lawrence and the improvement he showed in the second half of last season, adding that the Jacksonville Jaguars will also have an elite reinforcement in Calvin Ridley.
