Even though the Los Angeles Rams have a young and promising roster, Matthew Stafford, their starting quarterback, is getting up there in age, and it isn’t a given he will remain with them next season.
Stafford and the Rams reportedly are trying to work out a new contract, but if a deal cannot be agreed to, there seems to be a chance they will trade him this offseason.
With the Pittsburgh Steelers facing their own quarterback questions, ESPN analyst Sam Acho said they should go after Stafford, even though their offensive line is lackluster.
“Get a guy like Matthew Stafford, it almost negates some of the struggles that an offensive line can have,” Acho said, via NFL on ESPN.

Stafford, who recently turned 37 years old, is three seasons removed from leading L.A. to the Super Bowl championship, and this season he threw for 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns.
As Acho pointed out, his toughness and ability to change plays pre-snap can come in handy for a Steelers team that isn’t exactly a world-beater on offense.
Pittsburgh made the playoffs this season with Russell Wilson, who is 36 years old, but he is about to be a free agent and on the downside of his career.
Backup Justin Fields doesn’t seem to be a viable option as a starter, and thus the Steelers likely need an upgrade to build on what they did in 2024.
Save for Sam Darnold, who should have multiple suitors as a free agent, the other QB options on the market don’t seem very appealing.
