Dak Prescott’s tenure with the Dallas Cowboys has had plenty of ups and downs — with more downs than ups.
He took the starting QB job from Tony Romo, and the team never looked back, even when it seemed like they were reluctant to sign him to a big contract.
The years go by, and Prescott continues to be average at best, alternating solid performances with head-scratching ones, and that’s not going to get the job done in the National Football League.
That’s why NFL analyst Craig Carton went as far as to call him the biggest failure to ever start for the Cowboys, talking about his recent statements about playing with a sense of urgency.

Per Carton, there’s simply no more urgency than actually being on the field for 17 games, as those guys won’t get to play 500+ games in their careers as it happens with other sports.
Carton believes that Prescott simply isn’t good enough to be a starter in the league, regardless of how much sense of urgency he claims to have.
Truth be told, it’s hard to envision a team being a legit Super Bowl contender with a mid-tier QB under center, and that’s the case with the Cowboys, even if they already have a road playoff win with Prescott leading the way.
The Cowboys will have to rely heavily on their running game and their defense to win and go the distance in 2023, and that’s not exactly what you want when you signed a guy to a long-term deal at what was top-dollar at the time.
