The Sacramento Kings took a step back during the 2023-24 NBA season as they failed to qualify for the postseason after losing to the New Orleans Pelicans in the Play-In Tournament.
It was a disappointing end to the year for a Kings team that came into the regular season with high hopes after making it back to the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.
Sacramento suffered untimely injuries to key role players down the stretch which hurt their postseason chances, though there’s still optimism they can compete with De’Aaron Fox and Domantis Sabonis still on the roster.
Meanwhile, the organization answered a huge question this offseason as they agreed to an extension with head coach Mike Brown.
Brown was set to coach on the final year of his deal going into the 2024-25 NBA season, but will now be under contract through the 2026-27 campaign.
Brown has done well since taking over the Kings’ sideline and Kevin John of ABC10 outlined why he was deserving of his extension.
“It’s about time the Kings gave Mike Brown what he deserves. He’s the only Kings head coach since Adelman to: *Post two consecutive winning seasons. *Take the Kings to the Playoffs. *Change the culture of the team. Brown’s extension will pay him $8.5 annually, with up to $10 million a year with bonuses,” John tweeted.

Brown might not be considered a top-tier coach around the league, but he’s done well in Sacramento and deserved a longer tenure with the organization.
However, now the challenge for Brown and his staff is how to get over the hump in what is becoming an increasingly difficult Western Conference.
