What will the Minnesota Vikings do at the quarterback position this offseason?
After the way that veteran quarterback Sam Darnold has played in place of the injured J.J. McCarthy, could they trade McCarthy after drafting him in the first round last offseason?
According to insider Ben Goessling, that is unlikely.
“I don’t think there’s any likelihood (of the vikings trading J.J. McCarthy)…It’s not going to happen,” Goessling said Friday via Purple Insider.

Goessling continued saying “they are [not] going to move a guy that they drafted, that they moved up to get, that Kevin O'Connell said is a franchise QB. It's… pic.twitter.com/DhNyyOS9jQ

Nothing is ever certain in the NFL, so it could be unwise for Minnesota to deal the former national champion.
Yes, Sam Darnold has turned in a Pro Bowl season where he has thrown for 35 touchdowns and over 4,150 yards.
However, he could always get hurt, or his play could drop off.
The Tennessee Titans were in a similar situation with veteran Ryan Tannehill a few years ago,
He became a Pro Bowl quarterback in a better situation, but his play eventually dropped off, and Tennessee moved on from him.
The same could always happen to Darnold here.
He deserves a new contract for the type of season that he has put forth as the Vikings sit at 14-2 with a chance to earn the No. 1 seed in the NFC this weekend if they can beat the Detroit Lions.
But if something unforeseen occurs, the Vikings might be wise to keep McCarthy for the next few seasons.
Perhaps he could still be the future quarterback, but that could take place a few years later.
