The Chicago Bears have a bit of a situation right now.
Justin Fields’ trade value seems to be decreasing, as multiple QB-needy teams have either gotten their targets or will get them in the NFL Draft.
It doesn’t seem like he’s going to get a chance to become a starter.
That’s why NFL analyst Craig Carton believes the Bears shouldn’t give him away at a discount and they should make him change positions instead.
Talking on The Carton Show, he argued that Fields is an elite athlete who has proven to be capable of picking up yards in the open field, which is why he believes he should be better suited to play as their slot receiver and as their backup running back behind D’Andre Swift.

Needless to say, this is a bit of a hot take.
Carton stated that Fields has proven that he cannot play quarterback in the NFL, as he hasn’t even thrown for more than 355 yards in three years.
Even if that were the case, it’s not like switching positions is something that can be done overnight.
Carton, however, believes that would allow the Bears to land a generational talent like Caleb Williams while keeping an outstanding athlete on the roster as well.
That’s not likely going to happen.
As things stand now, chances are that Fields will be traded at a massive discount to be a backup.
Then, once he becomes a free agent, he might get another opportunity to become a starter, but he’s looking at one year on the sidelines at the very least.
