The San Antonio Spurs have been historically cautious with their superstars, and they won’t change that stance any time soon.
That’s why NBA analyst Craig Carton believes they should just pull the plug and shut down Victor Wembanyama for the remainder of the NBA 2K Summer League.
Carton explained that Wembanyama’s bounce-back game was just the game he and them needed to shut down the critics and all the narratives around him, so now it’s time to call it a day.

He added that, had Wembanyama struggled again, then it would’ve been fair to give him another chance to prove himself, but that’s just not worth it anymore.
Per Carton, the Spurs need to shut him down and just get him to the gym to lift some weights and get him into the proper diet and hope people don’t hear another thing about him until the preseason, and he’s right on point.
Wembanyama will be under the most pressure any NBA prospect has been over the past two decades.
He’s projected as a better prospect than LeBron James, and that’s a standard that’s pretty unrealistic.
And even though he might turn out to be as good — or even better — than James, he’ll be in the spotlight from day one, and that’s not the kind of attention one should want or need while trying to learn the ropes of the game.
With a great talent comes a great responsibility, and the Spurs need to make sure to put their star prospect in a position to succeed.
