Sentiments change quickly in the NFL largely thanks to the 24-hour media cycle, and even the brightest of young stars can be just one or two bad games away from the masses turning on them.
It’s an unfortunate part of the job, as is the case for one young quarterback who has become “overrated” in the eyes of one analyst.
On ESPN Friday morning, Paul Hembekides said “I think C.J. Stroud has pretty quickly become an overrated player” and added “He so exceeded expectations last year that I think we just assumed he was going to vault himself into the top, we’ll call it 5-10 among quarterbacks in the NFL. In reality, I think he’s still good, but closer to average than he is to being at the very top.”

Hembekides went on to mention how Stroud’s production has dipped now that his top two receivers are out and his offensive line isn’t performing up to standard, which will obviously hurt any quarterback, but helps to get a better idea of where a QB stands overall.
It’s not as hot of a take as you would expect before watching the actual clip, as there are so many great QBs in the league that Stroud could still be one of the league’s brightest young stars and best QBs even though he might not yet be in the top 5-10 group of QBs, according to some.
Stroud struggled mightily in Thursday night’s loss to the New York Jets, going 11-for-30 for 191 yards and being sacked a career-high eight times.
