The New Orleans Saints might be heading in the right direction.
However, it will be some time before they start getting some wins.
As such, it only makes sense that they look to part ways with some of their veterans.
Nevertheless, Alvin Kamara doesn’t want to hear anything about that.
If anything, the veteran is as committed to the team as he first was:
“Sources say Kamara told Saints general manager Mickey Loomis that he’d like to remain with the franchise through the rest of his career, which was the goal when he signed a two-year, $24.5 million extension last October. Kamara is signed through 2026 and will have a decision to make prior to next season about if he wants to continue playing,” Rapoport wrote.
Kamara has spent his entire career with the Saints.
He was tangled up in some trade rumors before he got a contract extension that would most likely keep him in the Big Easy for the remainder of his career.
Then again, this is a business first and foremost, and, unfortunately, feelings are often irrelevant.
As much as he loves the team and the fan base, and as much as the city loves him back, the fact of the matter is that he’s one of the team’s most valuable trade assets.
That means they will be better off moving on from him than keeping him around.
Also, there will be a big market for veteran running backs at the trade deadline.
The Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Chicago Bears are all rumored to be in the mix for a running back, and even if Kamara is clearly not in his heyday anymore, he could still be a prime short-term reinforcement.
Whether he’ll be granted his wish of being a Saint for life or not remains to be seen, but it certainly seems unlikely right now.
