St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols has 15 home runs in the 2022 season.
Over half of them, eight to be precise, came in the month of August.
That’s how hot he has been in recent weeks: at 42 years old, the living legend is showing that there is still some thump left on his right-handed bat.
In fact, he has hit so many dingers this month that there is a record in sight for him: he just needs to homer today.
“Albert Pujols has hit 8 HR in the month of August. That is tied with Barry Bonds (April 2007) and Carl Yastrzemski (July 1983) for the most HR hit in a single month by a player age 42 or older,” ESPN Stats & Info tweeted.

One More Chance At History
The Cardinals will play against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark, starting at 6:40 p.m. ET.
If he hits his ninth home run of the month, he will break yet another record.
At this point in time, he is looking increasingly likely to reach 700 round-trippers over his career.
He is at 694 at the moment, so he will need to catch fire in September in order to become the fourth player after Barry Bonds, Henry Aaron, and Babe Ruth to reach that threshold.
Pujols, who is playing almost exclusively against left-handed pitchers, is hitting .275/.350/.527 with a cool .877, showing that as long as there is a southpaw on the mound, he is as good as anybody in MLB.
The 2022 campaign will be his final one in the big leagues, and he is trying to go out in style.
He has been revitalized by being on a team that is vying for a spot in the postseason.
Pujols has widely exceeded expectations this year, and the best may be yet to come.
