The NBA has been eagerly waiting to see what the Portland Trail Blazers decide to do with Damian Lillard.
Earlier in the offseason, Lillard finally requested a trade from the only franchise he knows, which kickstarted conversations with teams around the league.
The frontrunner for Lillard’s services appeared to be the Miami Heat as Lillard named them as his preferred destination.
Miami engaged Portland on a blockbuster deal, but the two sides were unable to come to an agreement.
Since then, there hasn’t been much movement on a potential Lillard trade which signals that the Blazers are holding out for a haul.
Although the Blazers have been patiently waiting for the right deal, it appears that they have a deadline to get a trade done via Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
“There’ll be more conversation with the Blazers and perspectives teams over the next few weeks than there were over the last couple of months,” Wojnarowski said, as shared below. “The next real deadline is the start of training camp.”

Training camp is set to begin near the end of September, which gives Portland and other teams a few weeks to get something done.
The Heat are still perceived to be in the driver’s seat as they’re all-in on a title with their current nucleus and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them offer everything they possibly can.
For now, fans will have to continue to monitor the situation though it seems like things could be heating up in the very near future.
