Trading for a 39-year-old quarterback isn’t the kind of move most NFL teams would look to make.
However, when that quarterback happens to be Aaron Rodgers, you just roll the dice and try to make the most of that chance for as long as it lasts.
Needless to say, some believe the New York Jets were making a mistake by trading for Rodgers after he hinted at retiring, stating that he would be there for one or two years at the most.
Notably, Rodgers has been quick to dismiss that narrative, not only with his words but also with his actions.
He recently explained why he decided to restructure his contract to give the Jets more cap space and flexibility going forward, stating that he intends this to be a long-term partnership with the organization.
Rodgers wants the Jets to be in a position to acquire more talent if a star suddenly becomes available, and he’s also talked about their championship window being open for years to come.
Of course, he also has a history of being a bit unpredictable, so one never knows with him, especially at this point in his career when he’s done, seen, and accomplished so much.
But there’s no reason to think he’s on the decline or won’t be able to make this team significantly better for years to come.
Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, and he intends to defy Father Time and play until his arm falls off, then so be it.
