After almost two years, it’s safe to say that the Aaron Rodgers experiment in New York has not gone according to plan.
New York Jets fans were excited about the possibility of what Rodgers could provide given his experience and former MVP performances, but he hasn’t played up to par, even when fully healthy.
Despite having great playmakers on both sides of the ball, the Jets haven’t been able to win with Rodgers under center.
The team’s future is unknown at this position but in a recent ESPN article, Rich Cimini outlined that Rodgers potentially believes this is his last year with the Jets.
“I think there’s a world where they just say, ‘Hey, thank you, we’re going to go in another direction’ on January 6th,” Rodgers said, referring to the day after the regular season. “… That’s a possibility. I think there’s also a possibility we’re going to wait and see who the new staff is.”
The new staff Rodgers is referencing is a new coaching staff, as Robert Saleh was fired early on in the season, leaving an opening for a new head coach.
Whether he’ll stick around to see a new head coach remains to be seen, but for now, the team remains in limbo.
The Jets find themselves in an interesting situation with two weeks left in the season.
They can either punt these last two weeks, hoping to improve their draft position or, Rodgers can give it his all and show the team that he’s interested in playing for them again next year.
