The New York Yankees experienced heartbreak after losing the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers last season.
Amid the offseason, the Yankees experienced yet another heartbreak as top free-agent outfielder Juan Soto signed with the New York Mets.
Soto chose to sign with the Mets over the Yankees even though the contract offers of both teams were close.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale on ‘X,’ Yankees manager Aaron Boone made a statement regarding the departure of Soto.
“It kind of hurts in the moment, but when you live in the business and you live in the sport, again, it is sports,” Boone said.

Soto chose to join the Mets over the Yankees as he signed a contract worth $765 million over 15 years.
Boone revealed that he was upset at Soto’s decision, but mentions that sports sometimes go that way and it is an opportunity for the Yankees to overcome it.
The Yankees did all they could to bring Soto back as it was reported that the Yankees came within $5 million of the Mets’ offer.
Now that Soto is off the table, it will be interesting to see how aggressive the Yankees are during the rest of the offseason.
With plenty of other big-time talent available both in the free agent class and also via trade, the Yankees have options if they wish to upgrade their roster before the 2025 season.
The Yankees will look to win the American League East for the second straight season for the first time since 2011 and 2012.
